Founded in 2018 by Jerry Bures, the Institute for Confident Parenting is an online parent education organization providing parents, professionals, and other adults simple strategies and effective tools for raising good kids, even under the most difficult circumstances.
Backed by the science of developmental psychology and real-life experience, we uncover, unpack, and layout a roadmap that parents, educators, youth leaders, coaches, social workers, and other adult mentors can use to build better kids in today’s challenging world. Humans tend to complicate success by entertaining too many strategies. This scattered focus only makes our efforts more challenging and extends the timeline for successfully accomplishing any undertaking. This is especially true when it comes to raising kids.
So, first and foremost we must make taking care of ourselves a top priority. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. In doing so, we can avail our best self to our kids, thereby enjoying greater success from every experience and interaction with them.
And second, we want to retain primary influence over our kids at all costs. Look, if we don’t connect with our own kids, others will gladly step in and grab their attention. And we may not like what follows. So, how we maintain influence over them is by consistently behaving and communicating in ways that build a strong emotional connection with them from day one. To the degree we connect intimately with our kids—treat them respectfully and show them we have their backs—they will trust our judgements…listen more intently…make better choices…behave morally…and treat others similarly.
